The Centre for Further Education and Lifelong Learning of the University of Macedonia, organizes a Training Programme, entitled “Music Education for Infants and Children”, of 180 hours and 4 months duration, which will be carried out using the method of blended learning with synchronous and asynchronous tele-education.

Program Objectives:

  • Familiarisation with research findings on the role of music in the life and musical, cognitive, emotional and social development of infants and toddlers
  • Understanding the stages of musical development of infants and toddlers
  • Familiarization with fundamental principles and basic music pedagogical approaches related to the teaching of infants and toddlers
  • Familiarization with developmentally appropriate repertoire, musical and pedagogical material for the musical employment, development and teaching of infants and toddlers
  • The study and understanding of good practices that govern the musical employment and teaching of infants and toddlers
  • Providing guidance for the design and implementation of model musical activities for infants and toddlers
  • The provision of tools to optimise teaching in the context of infant and pre-school music education
  • To enhance the development of the necessary skills of the participants, so that they are able to provide high pedagogical and musical quality activities that will contribute to the musical development of infants and toddlers

The programme is aimed at those who:

  • Are involved or intend to become involved in the field of infant and pre-school education or music education
  • They are professionally employed in infant/preschool education facilities, creative activity centres for children, conservatories, music schools, etc.
  • They are interested in acquiring sound theoretical training and specialized knowledge regarding the role of music in the development and education of infants and toddlers

  • Key features of infancy and childhood
  • The role of music in the daily care, occupation, entertainment and development of infants and toddlers
  • Basic theoretical principles and research findings on the musical development of infants and toddlers
  • Approaches and methods in music teaching for infants and toddlers: theory and applications
  • Music guidance and teaching of infants and toddlers: teaching methodology and good practices
  • Designing model music activities for teaching music to infants and toddlers
  • The role of the parent in the musical development and education of infants and toddlers
  • Organ learning in infancy: the Suzuki method

You can find additional information about the Curriculum here. Mode of delivery The programme is implemented through asynchronous distance learning methods (e-Learning), where the simultaneous participation of the trainer and the trainee is not required.
However, two courses (6 hours) will also be conducted using synchronous distance learning (videoconferencing).
The training material and the instructor-trainee collaboration will be made available via a web-based platform using a simple browser (Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc.)

Programme evaluation The trainee for the certificate is assessed by means of an assignment at the end of the programme. Upon successful assessment, participants are provided with a Certificate, otherwise they receive a Certificate of Attendance.
