Special Education, Education & Rehabilitation (PAMAK)

The Centre for Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning of the University of Macedonia, organizes a distance training programme entitled “Special Education, Education and Rehabilitation” of 500 hours/10 months duration, which will be conducted remotely using the method of modern and asynchronous tele-education.

The programme aims to provide knowledge and skills, both theoretical and practical, which are necessary for the education and support of students with special educational needs in general and special schools of primary and secondary education (Kindergarten, Primary, Secondary, Secondary, High School, High School, Technical College, SMEA, EEEK).

The Programme is addressed to teachers, psychologists and specialists of various scientific fields who work or are going to work in general schools of Primary and Secondary Education, in special schools and in institutions/rehabilitation centres for people with special educational needs and disabilities.

Programme modules

  • Effective teaching of students with mild learning needs: Theories, Programs, Methods, Techniques
  • Teaching students with Specific Learning Difficulties in Reading and Writing
  • Teaching students with Specific Learning Difficulties in Mathematics and students with non-verbal Specific Learning Difficulties
  • Effective teaching of gifted and talented students
  • Visual impairment: terms, definitions and characteristics
  • Writing and reading Braille
  • Social skills of people with visual impairment
  • Providing social support to people with disabilities
  • Intellectual and developmental disabilities: terms, definitions and characteristics
  • Education of children and young adolescents with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Severe and/or multiple disabilities: terms, definitions and characteristics
  • Education of children and young adolescents with severe and/or multiple disabilities
  • Education of people with disabilities using assistive technology
  • Assistive technology for people with visual impairment, hearing impairment, mobility impairment, mental retardation and pervasive developmental disorders

You can find additional information about the Curriculum here. The programme will have a duration of 500 hours, distributed as follows:

  • 16 hours of distance learning with the method of modern e-learning
  • 484 hours of asynchronous tele-education, which will include, among other things, the implementation of 1 bibliographical work, which will be completed in collaboration with the lecturers.

Through the platform, learners will have access to the educational material of the courses and there is also the possibility for direct communication with the teacher through appropriate collaborative tools (free discussion area – forum, exchange of text messages – chat).

Programme evaluation Each trainee can choose any of the following two methods of evaluation.

  • A written remote examination in which the candidate will be asked to answer multiple-choice questions covering the entire programme.
    The examination will be considered successful when at least 50% of the questions have been answered correctly.
  • Completion of one (1) bibliographic paper on topics to be assigned by the instructors in the program.
